At a sand loadout station located near the mouth of the\u00a0Brisbane River in Queensland, H-E Parts was invited to\u00a0submit a construction proposal for the replacement and\u00a0removal of a rusted and damaged sand bin along with three\u00a0rusted gangways.\u00a0This was a unique project as the equipment was suspended\u00a0over water and crane access from land would not be cost-effective,
\npotentially costing $300,000 just in crane hire\u00a0fees for the size of crane required to complete the work. To\u00a0overcome this, H-E Parts presented a proposal to mobilize\u00a0a crane onto a barge. This attracted the attention of the\u00a0customer as it hadn\u2019t been previously considered as an\u00a0option.\u00a0Based on H-E Parts comprehensive scope, feasibility and\u00a0expertise, H-E Parts was awarded the project.\u00a0There was a lot of pre-planning work needed to ensure that\u00a0the crane lift was feasible and that it was safe. One factor\u00a0to consider was that the crane becomes downrated by 30%\u00a0when used on unstable ground, and without accurately\u00a0knowing the weight of the old bin it presented an issue. We\u00a0then engaged a naval architect to check the stability of the\u00a0barge and crane when fully loaded and to help prepare the\u00a0lift plan.\u00a0H-E Parts successfully completed the scope of work, which\u00a0was to remove and replace with new \u2013 one sand bin and\u00a0three aluminum gangways, totaling 55 meters in length.\u00a0We mobilized a 250-ton crane onto a large dumb barge\u00a0and towed it into position alongside the wharf using tugboats. All original equipment was removed from the site and\u00a0disposed of and the project was completed on time and on budget. The methodology of using cranes and barges made\u00a0the job quite unique and provided a cost-effective solution\u00a0for the customer.<\/p>\n
